Rewarding recycling with ECOINS
On November 24, we carried out the first pilot test for the collection of recoverable materials in order to reward recycling through the exchange of clean, dry and separated waste for "Ecoins", that can be exchanged for discounts at different affiliated stores.
Ecoins is a digital platform that encourages registered people and companies to give their waste to collection and recovery centers- from plastic, glass, paper, aluminum, tires and cardboard to even electronic items, among others - in order to integrate all parties: consumers, companies and government to be a part of the solution to the environmental problem; and turn it into an opportunity for all of us to be part of the chain of circular economy.
For the implementation of the first pilot test, seven collection centers were activated in different parts of the country: Termoencogibles, Green Depot, “Industrial Verde” Park, The Cleaning Company, Impact Hub Network, the Municipality of “Antiguo Cuscatlán” and the Embassy of Costa Rica.
El Salvador is the fifth country to join Ecoins, thanks to the alliance generated with Termoencogibles and Recicla 503, through which they will promote recycling actions among Salvadorans for the benefit of the environment.
"We have high expectations about the results and positive impact that can be generated from the synergy between Ecoins and Recicla 503; we are facilitating and rewarding recycling,” said Hugo Eduardo Tona, Manager of Sustainability Projects.
